01 / THE STORY
History & context
Chassis 1367GT is a Ferrari 250 GT Long Wheelbase Berlinetta, bodied by Carrozzeria Zagato and completed on July 2, 1959. Known as one of the final iterations in the celebrated “Tour de France” (TdF) lineage, the vehicle represents a convergence of competition-grade engineering and bespoke design. It is constructed with a full alloy body and configured in left-hand drive. Uniquely among TdF examples, this car was completed without the characteristic rear sail panel louvres. The exterior was originally finished in crème white, complemented by a red leather interior and a black dashboard. The car was delivered new to Vladimiro Galluzzi in Italy and is referenced in multiple sources including Pourret (p.68) and Ferrari by Zagato (pp. 118–127). In 1960, it came into the possession of Cornelia Vassali, reportedly the wife of Camillo Luglio. Precise ownership during the intervening years remains undocumented, but the car is believed to have remained in Italy through the 1960s and early 1970s. In 1975, the car appeared in the United States, acquired by James Boulware of Monte Sereno, California. The following year, ownership passed to Robert Gatien of San Jose, and in 1978, it was held by O. Owen, also based in the United States. By 1980, the car had returned to Italy under the care of Pietro Brigato of Vicenza, bearing registration “PD 748456.” This registration has remained associated with the car in various events. Chassis 1367GT continued to be presented in historic motoring events, including its documented participation on September 4, 2009, in the Coppa d’Oro delle Dolomiti. On that occasion, it was driven by Arengi Bentivoglio alongside Bianco Mengotti, competing under entry number 87 and again displaying the registration “PD 748456.”
