Touring Superleggera Unveils The New Veloce12 Aperta

Touring Superleggera has unveiled the new Superleggera Veloce12 Aperta at its headquarters in Rho, Milan, opening a new chapter in the Veloce12 family and marking one of the most symbolic moments of the coachbuilder’s centenary celebrations.
The new model arrives as Touring Superleggera celebrates 100 years of Italian coachbuilding artistry, a milestone that connects the Milanese company’s historic legacy with its contemporary vision of bespoke grand touring. Positioned between the Veloce12 Coupé and the more radical Veloce12 Barchetta, the Aperta has been conceived as the ultimate “Weekender”: a refined two-seat grand tourer designed for elegant escapes, long-distance travel and the pleasure of open-air driving.
Rather than simply removing the roof from the Coupé, Touring Superleggera has developed a more sophisticated interpretation of the open-top formula. The Veloce12 Aperta is defined by removable roof panels and a sculpted aluminium arch, creating a body architecture that preserves the intimacy of a closed grand tourer while allowing the occupants to experience the road, the sound and the surrounding landscape in a more direct way.
This intermediate character gives the Aperta a very precise role within the range. The Coupé remains the pure grand tourer, elegant and enclosed, while the Barchetta represents the most uncompromising expression of open-air driving. The Aperta sits between them, offering greater usability and comfort than the Barchetta, but with a stronger emotional connection to the elements than the Coupé.

The first example is finished in Alba White, paired with a burgundy leather interior. The colour combination recalls some of Touring Superleggera’s most elegant creations of the 1960s, when Italian coachbuilding was defined by formal restraint, carefully balanced proportions and a particular sense of travel as a lifestyle. The result is not retro design, but a contemporary reading of Pure Italianità.
As with every Touring Superleggera project, the details play a central role. The Aperta has been developed around a travel-focused concept, with bespoke accessories and tailored luggage compartments designed to make the best possible use of the rear luggage area. With a storage capacity of up to 327 litres, the Veloce12 Aperta brings an unexpected level of practicality to a limited-series coachbuilt V12 car.

This practical approach is central to the idea of the “Touring Superleggera Weekender”. It is not a track-focused machine, nor a static collector’s object. It is a car designed to be used, enjoyed and taken away for a weekend journey by two people. In this sense, it returns to the true meaning of grand touring: crossing distance with speed, comfort, elegance and a certain sense of ceremony.
Beneath the sculptural bodywork, the Veloce12 Aperta retains the analogue soul of the Veloce12 family. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V12 engine paired with a six-speed manual gearbox, offering a driving experience that is increasingly rare in the modern performance car world. In an era dominated by hybrid systems, dual-clutch transmissions and digital interfaces, Touring Superleggera has chosen a more mechanical and emotional approach.
The result is a car that celebrates not only performance, but also interaction. The driver is not separated from the machine by layers of automation. The manual gearbox, the naturally aspirated engine and the open-top architecture all contribute to a more direct and personal form of driving pleasure.
The Veloce12 Aperta also reinforces the importance of Touring Superleggera as one of the few remaining Italian coachbuilders able to combine heritage, handcraftsmanship and limited-series production in a modern context. From its early association with lightweight construction to its post-war icons and contemporary fuoriserie creations, Touring has always interpreted the automobile as an object of movement, proportion and culture.

With the Aperta, that philosophy is applied to a car created for modern collectors who still value travel as an experience. Its removable roof panels, elegant colour palette, bespoke luggage solutions and V12 manual drivetrain make it a very specific kind of automobile: not merely a supercar, but a coachbuilt grand tourer for two.
As Touring Superleggera enters its second century, the Superleggera Veloce12 Aperta becomes more than another derivative of an existing model. It is a statement about what Italian coachbuilding can still mean today: elegance without excess, performance without artificiality, and craftsmanship shaped around the pleasure of departure.
