01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Touring Superleggera Veloce12 Barchetta is a limited-production, the open-top versione of the Veloce12 created by Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera. Based on the Ferrari 550 Maranello, the Veloce12 Barchetta represents a modern interpretation of classic barchetta-style design, drawing inspiration from the open sports cars of the 1940s and 1950s. Each example begins life as a 550 Maranello and undergoes a complete transformation, including structural reinforcement with carbonfibre elements to maintain rigidity in the absence of a fixed roof. Production is limited to 30 units, each tailored to the individual preferences of its owner. Mechanically, the car retains the original front-mounted 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine, which is fully rebuilt and enhanced by Touring. Modifications include improved cooling and a performance exhaust system, delivering a power increase over the donor vehicle. The six-speed gated manual transmission is retained, offering a connection to the analog driving experience of the original Ferrari. Adaptive suspension, developed in collaboration with TracTive, provides multiple dynamic settings to suit different driving conditions, while Brembo-supplied brakes with large ventilated discs offer modern stopping performance. The design of the Veloce12 Barchetta balances heritage with contemporary aesthetics. While it respects the proportions and language of the 550 Maranello, the bodywork is completely revised with flowing, sculpted surfaces and a more dynamic rear section. The interior is extensively reworked with bespoke materials and finishes, including leather, Alcantara, and metal accents. Touring emphasizes craftsmanship and individualization, allowing each car to reflect the tastes of its owner. Unveiled at The Quail in 2025, the Veloce12 Barchetta exemplifies Touring Superleggera’s philosophy of blending traditional coachbuilding with modern materials and performance. It continues the marque’s legacy of creating highly exclusive, hand-built automobiles that celebrate both Italian design and driving emotion.
