01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Lancia Aprilia Berlinetta (1937) was coachbuilt by Touring. The model was developed during a period marked by advancements in aerodynamics and automotive design, reflecting the evolving needs of both manufacturers and consumers. The coachbuilding process involved meticulous attention to proportions and construction methods, with Touring employing their patented Superleggera technique, which allowed for lightweight bodywork while maintaining structural integrity. This method involved the use of a tubular frame covered by aluminum panels, giving the Berlinetta its distinctive streamlined form. Mechanically, the Lancia Aprilia was equipped with a chassis that featured independent front suspension, which contributed to improved handling and ride comfort. Powered by a 1.3L inline-four engine, the model exemplified the engineering principles of its time, balancing performance with efficiency. The vehicle’s layout combined a rear-engine configuration with a front-wheel-drive system, which was innovative for its era.
