Touring Superleggera Veloce12 Barchetta Debuts at The Quail 2025

Touring Superleggera has officially unveiled its latest creation, the Veloce12 Barchetta, at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2025. The new model is a roofless evolution of the Veloce12 coupé introduced last year, continuing the Milan-based coachbuilder’s tradition of blending contemporary materials with heritage-inspired design.
Technical Foundation
Rather than being a reinterpretation of the 550 Barchetta, the Veloce12 Barchetta is based on the Ferrari 550 Maranello. Touring will build 30 examples, each undergoing significant transformation. The structure is reinforced using carbonfibre bracing, aimed at improving torsional stiffness and compensating for the removal of the fixed roof.

The 5.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine is fully refurbished by Touring and gains a PWR cooling system and a Supersprint exhaust, resulting in a modest performance increase of approximately 25bhp over the standard 485bhp. The six-speed gated manual transmission is retained from the donor car.
Chassis and Braking
A collaboration with suspension specialists TracTive has yielded a new adaptive damping setup, offering several modes for both comfort-oriented driving and more dynamic use. Braking is provided by Brembo, with six-piston calipers and 380mm discs at the front and four-piston calipers with 380mm discs at the rear.
Design and Interior
The Barchetta features notable design changes, particularly in the rear section, which is more sculptural than the original 550 Maranello or the Pininfarina-designed 550 Barchetta. Touring describes the car as an “evolution” rather than a reinterpretation, preserving the character of the original model while introducing new surface treatments and modern aerodynamic elements.

The cabin has been completely revised. While the original 550 offered ergonomic improvements over its predecessors, Touring has reworked the interior to a much higher standard, using premium materials throughout. The example shown at The Quail featured rose gold detailing and full leather trim, although a wide range of finishes — including Alcantara and various leathers — is available for customer specification.
Production and Deliveries
The Veloce12 coupé, launched in 2024, has seen strong demand despite some early criticism. According to Touring, most of the 30 units have been allocated, with deliveries expected to begin in late 2025. The first examples of the Barchetta are scheduled for delivery in late 2026.
Design Philosophy
Touring Superleggera’s head of design, Matteo Gentile, explains the guiding principle behind the project:
“The concept of superleggera is not only about reducing weight. It’s about achieving a balance between form and function — where each element contributes to both the aesthetics and the performance of the car.”
Gentile also cited inspiration from the great white shark, describing it as a symbol of “strength, speed, and efficiency” — values which informed the car’s aerodynamics and proportions.

The Veloce12 Barchetta is the latest example of Touring Superleggera’s ongoing commitment to modern coachbuilding — carefully balancing innovation with respect for classic form. With its combination of heritage cues, bespoke craftsmanship, and updated engineering, it continues the tradition of Italian design tailored to the individual enthusiast.
