01 / THE STORY
History & context
The 1952 Fiat 1400 Rondine Coupé, chassis 101.048757, is a special-bodied coupé built by Stabilimento Monviso and designed by Giovanni Michelotti on Fiat 1400 mechanical foundations. Exact-car documentation identifies engine 101.000.014383 and establishes the car as a 1952 example, correcting the earlier Carrozzieri Italiani record, which dated the vehicle to 1951 and rendered the chassis number as 101*048757.
The car belongs to Monviso’s Rondine programme, a family of special Fiat 1400 derivatives developed during the early 1950s. The broader Rondine family included both coupé and cabriolet forms and evolved through more than one series. CI 2.0 therefore keeps the family history separate from the identity of this surviving car: information about another Rondine, even one of the same model year, is not automatically transferred to chassis 101.048757.
For this exact vehicle, the coachbuilder and designer attributions are unusually well defined. Gooding & Company identifies Monviso as the body constructor and Giovanni Michelotti as the designer, allowing both roles to be linked directly to the chassis-specific record rather than inferred from a broader model programme. This distinction is important in the CI 2.0 data model, where the company responsible for constructing the body and the individual responsible for its design remain separate canonical relationships.
The known provenance extends beyond its original specification. The car was delivered new in 1952 to Professor Pietro Francesco Guerrini and remained with his family until 1992. It subsequently passed to Giorgio Resca and later entered the Leo Schigiel collection. During that period it was restored, and Gooding records ASI Gold certification. These later ownership and restoration details are preserved as chassis-specific history rather than treated as part of the model-level Rondine narrative.
The car appeared at Gooding & Company’s Amelia Island sale on 3 March 2023, where it sold for $89,600. Within CI 2.0, that market observation is attached to chassis 101.048757, not to the Rondine family as a whole. The record therefore combines a verified exact chassis, engine, year, coachbuilder and designer with separately structured provenance and market history, while preserving the wider Monviso Rondine programme only as contextual background.
