History & context
The Fiat 1100-103 Zagato is recorded as a 1957 stylistic elaboration of the Fiat 1100/103 E production saloon. Rather than representing a wholly new sporting coupé or a separately engineered competition car, this programme involved specialist changes to body details and exterior trim. The underlying Fiat saloon architecture and mechanical components were retained.
Zagato undertook numerous experiments and low-volume projects on Fiat chassis during the 1950s. The official Zagato historical archive supports the firm’s broader Fiat 1100/103 activities, while the exact Carrozzieri Italiani listing identifies this version as a particular Berlina elaboration. These are related but distinct lines of evidence: other Zagato 1100 coupés must not be merged into the history of this modified four-door car.
