01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Ferrari F430 SP1 (Special Project Number 1) was a unique and groundbreaking creation, marking the first one-off special produced under Ferrari’s Portfolio Program. This bespoke car was commissioned by Junichiro Hiramatsu, a prominent Japanese businessman and passionate Ferrari enthusiast. Hiramatsu, who had previously served as the president of the Ferrari Club of Japan, was a dedicated collector of Ferrari cars and had a particular admiration for the design work of Leonardo Fioravanti, a former designer at Pininfarina. Hiramatsu’s admiration for Fioravanti’s design of the 1998 F100 prototype played a key role in the creation of the F430 SP1. Designed by Fioravanti himself, the F430 SP1’s body was a true testament to the skilled craftsmanship and design philosophy that Ferrari and Pininfarina were known for. Fioravanti, renowned for his work on numerous iconic Ferrari models, including the Ferrari 308 GTB, brought his signature blend of elegance, performance, and innovation to the F430 SP1. The result was a one-off car that featured a distinctive and aerodynamic design, showcasing smooth lines and a dynamic profile that was both modern and timeless. The Ferrari F430 SP1 was created as a personal expression of luxury and performance, tailored to Hiramatsu’s specific tastes and preferences. It was built on the platform of the Ferrari F430, but with significant modifications to both the exterior and interior, giving the car an entirely unique character. Its design incorporated elements that reflected Hiramatsu’s admiration for the F100 prototype, combining boldness and sophistication with a focus on performance. As the first car produced under Ferrari’s Portfolio Program, the F430 SP1 set the tone for future bespoke creations, where clients could collaborate with Ferrari to create personalized, one-of-a-kind vehicles. The car remains a rare and coveted collector’s item, not only due to its unique design but also because of its connection to Ferrari’s long history of craftsmanship, exclusivity, and performance excellence. The Ferrari F430 SP1, while created for a single individual, symbolizes Ferrari’s commitment to delivering tailored and extraordinary automotive experiences.
