01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Flying Star, featuring a bespoke Flying Star body mounted on the legendary Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 chassis, is a masterpiece of automotive design and engineering. This exceptional vehicle, built by the renowned Milanese coachbuilder Touring,, boasts a design that, while less typical in some respects, retains all the elegance and aerodynamic sophistication associated with the “Flying Star” label. The 8C 2300 Flying Star was a powerful and fast machine, designed to excel in both grand touring and racing environments. Available in both GT and racing configurations, the car made its mark in a number of prestigious events and became a favorite among elite drivers. Legendary names like Tazio Nuvolari, Carlo Felice Borzacchini, Luigi Chinetti, and others piloted the 8C 2300 Flying Star to great success in some of the most challenging road and track races of the era. Among the vehicle’s many achievements, the 8C 2300 Flying Star earned recognition in the Mille Miglia, the Le Mans 24 Hours (where it competed for four consecutive years), the Monte Carlo Grand Prix, and the Targa Florio. It was an emblem of speed, reliability, and innovation, demonstrating Alfa Romeo’s prowess in both engineering and motorsport. Two versions of the 8C 2300 Flying Star were eventually produced, one with a 2.6-litre engine and another with a more powerful 2.9-litre variant, both of which delivered exceptional performance and made their presence felt on both public roads and race tracks. This unique combination of design excellence, racing pedigree, and engineering prowess secured the Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Flying Star as a lasting icon in automotive history, celebrated for its performance, beauty, and success across various forms of competition.
