01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Helvetia by Touring is a unique coachbuilt coupé produced in 1950 by Carrozzeria Touring of Milan. Based on the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 Sport chassis, this singular example showcases the collaboration between Alfa Romeo’s engineering and Touring’s bespoke design. The “Helvetia” designation reflects the vehicle’s association with Switzerland, as it was commissioned by a Swiss client. The car features a distinctive two-tone paint scheme, typically combining silver and dark blue hues, and is adorned with unique badging. The bodywork exhibits Touring’s signature Superleggera construction technique, employing a lightweight tubular steel framework covered with aluminum panels, resulting in a streamlined and elegant profile. Under the bonnet, the 6C 2500 S Helvetia is powered by a 2,443 cc inline-six engine, delivering approximately 95 horsepower. This powerplant is paired with a four-speed manual transmission, providing smooth and responsive performance. The car’s suspension system includes independent front suspension and a live rear axle, ensuring a comfortable and stable ride. The interior of the Helvetia is appointed with high-quality materials, including leather upholstery and finely crafted wood trim. The dashboard features a comprehensive set of instruments, reflecting the car’s blend of luxury and functionality. Seating is configured for four occupants, with ample space and comfort for both driver and passengers. As a one-off creation, the Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 S Helvetia by Touring holds a special place in automotive history. Its unique design and craftsmanship exemplify the artistry of mid-20th-century Italian coachbuilding. The vehicle has been showcased at prestigious events, including the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este, where it has been celebrated for its exceptional design and historical significance.
