01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Porsche Moncenisio is a one-off coachbuilt sports coupé created by Studiotorino, based on the Porsche Cayman S (Type 981). It was unveiled at the National Automobile Museum of Turin as a contemporary expression of Italian design applied to German engineering. Designed by Daniele Gaglione and commissioned by Alfredo Stola, the Moncenisio represents the studio’s philosophy of producing handcrafted, design-focused vehicles in extremely limited numbers—only one example was ever completed. Mechanically, the car retains the standard Cayman S powertrain: a 3.4-litre flat-six engine producing 325 horsepower (241 kW) and 370 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or seven-speed PDK transmission. Performance figures remain close to the base model, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 283 km/h. The only functional performance enhancement is a custom exhaust system, improving the car’s sound and slight throttle response. The Moncenisio’s transformation centers on extensive bodywork modifications constructed from carbon fibre and Kevlar. The front bumper was redesigned with integrated daytime running lights, while the rear bumper and tailgate are made entirely of carbon fibre. The rear side windows were deleted and replaced with welded sheetmetal panels, producing a smooth fastback silhouette. The overall form emphasizes aerodynamic purity and minimalist detailing. Inside, the cabin received a bespoke luxury treatment. Surfaces including the roof lining, A-pillars, and interior side panels are finished in hand-stitched, micro-perforated leather. Custom trims, materials, and detailing distinguish it from the production Cayman S, showcasing Italian craftsmanship at the highest level. Some styling cues were inspired by earlier Studiotorino projects such as the RUF RK Coupé and Spyder, linking the Moncenisio to a lineage of collaborative design exercises.
