01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Porsche 356 Ghia is a one-off vehicle believed to have been designed by Giovanni Michelotti and built by Carrozzeria Ghia. This unique 356B T6 was first presented at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show and is known for its distinctive modifications and styling features. The body design of the Porsche 356 Ghia includes a ‘smiling’ front grille, which gives the car a more friendly and approachable look compared to the standard 356. It also features additional headlamps, a bulging boot, and a truncated rear end, giving it a more dynamic and aggressive stance. Another unique aspect of the car is the deletion of the dividing chrome on the bonnet, a detail that differentiates it from the production models. Under the hood, the car retained the standard 1,600cc engine of the 356, providing the same performance as the original model. While the Porsche 356 by Carrozzeria Ghia was presented as a one-off prototype, it remains a rare and noteworthy example of a custom Porsche design, blending the elegance of Ghia’s craftsmanship and italian design with the sporty legacy of Porsche. The car’s unique styling continues to capture the attention of automotive enthusiasts and collectors, making it a standout piece in Porsche’s history.
