01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1400 Boano Junior is a distinctive coupé designed by Gianpaolo, the son of Ghia‘s director Felice Boano. The name “Boano Junior” highlights Gianpaolo’s role in the car’s creation, with the “B” referring to the Boano family name. The Boano Junior is renowned for its remarkable American-inspired styling, a design language that was prevalent during the post-war era, where American automotive influences often blended with Italian craftsmanship. The car is based on the Fiat 1400 chassis, a robust platform known for its solid engineering. Only two units of the Fiat 1400 Boano Junior were ever produced, making this vehicle exceptionally rare and highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts. One of the two examples was built on the more powerful Fiat 1900 chassis, further enhancing its appeal with improved performance capabilities. Both Fiat 1400 Boano Junior units were crafted by Ghia, an Italian coachbuilder with a reputation for producing innovative, high-quality automobiles. Ghia’s expertise in design and craftsmanship is evident in the Boano Junior’s elegant lines and luxurious detailing. The design was versatile enough to be applied to other chassis as well, such as the Lancia Aurelia B52, showcasing its wide appeal and adaptability. The 1400 Boano Junior stands out in automotive history for its rare combination of Italian design flair and American styling influences. The car’s elegant appearance, coupled with its limited production, makes it a coveted piece of automotive history.
