01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1100 TV Vignale is a unique and significant piece of automotive history, built on the 50bhp Turismo Veloce (Fast Touring) chassis. Designed by the famed Giovanni Michelotti and crafted by Carrozzeria Vignale in 1954, this one-of-a-kind car represents an important milestone in Vignale’s transition to limited edition production vehicles. The Fiat 1100 TV Vignale also served as a precursor to the FIAT 1100 Charmant coupé and shared its bodywork with the SIATA 1100 GT, further highlighting its influence on mid-century automotive design. This particular example is a matching-numbers car, originally registered by Dr. Bruni Nino of La Spezia, Italy, on February 17, 1955. It remained in Italy for several decades, passing through the hands of various owners, all meticulously documented. In 1989, the car underwent its first restoration and became a permanent member of the prestigious Sportitalia Team, earning recognition for its historical and aesthetic value. Later, the 1100 TV Vignale found its way to Austria, where it was owned by two prominent collectors, Mr. Reinhard Ortner and Dr. Gerald Anton Schön. In 2012, Dr. Schön refreshed the previous restoration and enhanced the car’s appearance by fitting Borrani wheels, further elevating its vintage charm. As the only one of its kind, this 1100 TV Vignale exemplifies the artistry of Italian coachbuilding and Michelotti’s forward-thinking design approach. Its long-standing presence in the collections of prestigious enthusiasts underscores its rarity and significance. With its distinctive styling, historical importance, and beautifully preserved condition, the Fiat 1100 TV Vignale remains an exceptional example of Italian automotive craftsmanship from the mid-20th century.
