01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Ferrari 212 Inter Coupé 0163EL by Vignale, originally sold by Joao A. Gaspar, the Ferrari importer in Portugal, holds a unique place in automotive history. Delivered to its first owner in Oporto in March of 1952, this car boasts a distinctive design by Giovanni Michelotti, characterized by a notchback style. This design merges the lower half of a Cabriolet body with a fixed hard-top, creating a visually striking profile. Throughout its storied existence, the Ferrari 212 Inter Coupé 0163EL has changed hands multiple times. Unfortunately, in 1955, it was involved in an accident. Despite this setback, the car underwent a full repair and continued its journey, participating in races in Lisbon during the late 1950s. Although its racing career did not yield significant success, the car retained its allure. A notable aspect of its history is its enduring connection to Portugal, remaining in the possession of Portuguese owners until the early 1990s. At that time, it found a new home in Germany, where it underwent an extensive restoration. This restoration aimed to preserve its original beauty and historical significance. Today, the Ferrari 212 Inter Coupé 0163EL by Vignale remains a rare gem, cherished by enthusiasts and collectors alike for its distinctive design and rich pedigree. Its journey from Portugal to Germany and its meticulous restoration serve as a testament to the enduring allure and timeless appeal of classic Ferraris.
