01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Capricorn 01 Zagato is a mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive hypercar developed by Capricorn Group in Düsseldorf, Germany, with exterior design by Zagato chief designer Norihiko Harada under the direction of Andrea Zagato. Production is limited to 19 handbuilt units. Power comes from a 5.2-litre supercharged V8 producing over 900 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque. The engine features a dry-sump lubrication system, a Capricorn-developed supercharger, forged crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons, and a 9,000 rpm redline. Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a CIMA five-speed dogleg manual gearbox. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in under three seconds and reaches a top speed of 360 km/h. Its dry weight is below 1,200 kilograms thanks to a full carbon-fibre monocoque with carbon subframes, crash structures, and body panels derived from Capricorn’s LMP1 racing technology. Suspension consists of a double-wishbone pushrod system with Bilstein dampers and adjustable anti-roll bars, offering Comfort, Sport, and Track modes. Steering is electrically assisted at low speeds and fully mechanical at higher speeds for unfiltered feedback. Braking is managed by Brembo carbon-ceramic discs with six-piston calipers and a bespoke ABS system. The 21-inch wheels, 9.5 inches wide at the front and 12.5 at the rear, are available in forged aluminium or carbon fibre. Aerodynamics are fully integrated into the body, generating downforce through underfloor channels and diffusers without external wings. The carbon-fibre coupe features gullwing doors and front-fender-mounted mirrors to reduce weight. The interior combines carbon fibre, titanium, and aluminium, with Connolly leather and Alcantara options. Three analogue instruments provide essential information, and fixed carbon-fibre seats form part of the chassis, complemented by adjustable pedals, steering column, and gear lever. The front trunk offers 110 litres of luggage capacity, and a four-wheel lift system with a concealed rear camera is standard. The Capricorn 01 Zagato is priced at €2.95 million before tax, with production beginning in the first half of 2026. It will be homologated for the EU, UK, Switzerland, Japan, Mexico, Canada, and the Middle East.
