01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS Aprile is a captivating example of early 20th-century automotive artistry and engineering. With its origins tracing back to 1931, this model stands as a testament to the innovative spirit of Italian automotive design. Initially, the car sported a Zagato spider body, a hallmark of the era’s pursuit of both speed and style. Purchased in Genoa, it quickly became part of the competitive racing scene of the 1930s, reflecting the era’s passion for motorsport. The car’s journey through various owners and transformations illustrates its evolving story and the changing tastes in automotive design. In 1938, the car’s acquisition by Giuseppe Aprile marked a significant turning point. Aprile, a respected coachbuilder from Savona, was known for his meticulous craftsmanship. Although he owned the Alfa Romeo for a brief period, his influence was profound. The car’s transformation under his brief ownership set the stage for its next chapter with Brunello Feltri. Feltri, another prominent figure in the world of automotive design, commissioned Mario Revelli di Beaumont to rebody the Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS. Revelli di Beaumont’s designs were celebrated for their elegance and aerodynamic efficiency, which would have infused the 6C 1750 GS with a distinctive character, aligning it with contemporary aesthetic and performance standards. Remaining in Liguria throughout its history, the car witnessed many changes but retained its intrinsic allure. The various modifications over the decades underscore the Alfa Romeo’s adaptability and the enduring fascination with its design. The restoration by Lopresto has brought the 6C 1750 GS Aprile back to its original grandeur, preserving its rich history and ensuring its place in automotive heritage. This restoration not only honors the car’s past but also ensures that its story continues to inspire and captivate enthusiasts and historians alike.
