01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Abarth 850 Spider Riviera made its dazzling debut at the prestigious 1959 Geneva Auto Salon. Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this rare masterpiece (only 3 built) epitomized the essence of Italian design and engineering prowess. Abarth, renowned for its high-performance modifications, unleashed only three specimens of the 850 Spider Riviera, ensuring exclusivity and rarity. Designed by the esteemed Giovanni Michelotti, the Spider Riviera exuded an aura of sophistication with its sleek and aerodynamic silhouette. The elegant lines of the car seamlessly blended with its powerful performance capabilities, creating a harmonious fusion of style and substance. The exterior boasted a design that was both timeless and contemporary, capturing the essence of automotive luxury. Carrozzeria Allemano, in collaboration with Michelotti, took the concept a step further by introducing the Abarth 850 Scorpione, a captivating coupé version born from the same creative genius. The Scorpione presented a berlinetta with a dignified yet sporty appeal, featuring a lightweight interior that emphasized the car’s commitment to performance. The combination of sober yet striking design elements contributed to the Scorpione’s allure, making it a worthy counterpart to the Spider Riviera. The scarcity of these automotive gems only added to their mystique, with enthusiasts and collectors alike coveting the limited production. The Abarth 850 Spider Riviera and its Scorpione sibling became revered symbols of automotive artistry and innovation, etching their names in the annals of classic car history. Decades later, these masterpieces continue to captivate the imagination of automotive aficionados, serving as a testament to the golden age of Italian design and craftsmanship.
