01 / THE STORY
The Glickenhaus SCG 003C was the competition version of the SCG 003 project, introduced in 2015 and developed for GT racing by Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. The letter C stood for Competizione, clearly identifying it as the track-focused variant of the car. The project was connected to Manifattura Automobili Torino, led by former Pininfarina engineer Paolo Garella, who was commissioned to design and develop the SCG 003. The car, designed by Granstudio, used a carbon-fibre chassis and was conceived from the beginning with endurance racing in mind, rather than being adapted from a conventional road car. The SCG 003C was powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 engine derived from the Honda Daytona Prototype programme. The engine was tuned by Autotecnica Motori in Italy and produced around 500 hp, with output restricted according to FIA regulations. The car’s weight was also set to approximately 1,350 kg, again in line with racing requirements. Aerodynamics were a major part of the project. The SCG 003C used a low nose, wide body, large rear wing, deep side channels and a functional diffuser package to generate high downforce and stability at speed. The layout followed modern endurance-racing practice, with the driver positioned within a compact cockpit and the bodywork shaped around airflow management. The SCG 003C competed at the Nürburgring and became one of the most recognisable independent GT racing projects of its period. It showed that a small manufacturer could still develop a serious competition car outside the structure of the major automotive groups. The road-going version, the SCG 003S Stradale, was later developed with the involvement of CAMAL Studio. Unlike the racing SCG 003C, it was intended for road use and used a different powertrain specification, while retaining the same basic design language and carbon-fibre construction philosophy.
