01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Renault 4CV Coupé GFH was a remarkable one-off prototype built in 1954 by the Italian coachbuilder Rocco Motto and Swiss mechanic Hansruedi Hauri. This unique creation stood out for its exceptionally light body, tipping the scales at just 465kg—approximately 100kg lighter than the standard Renault 4CV. Under the hood, the Coupé GFH was powered by a tuned version of the 4CV’s 904cc engine. This modification increased the engine’s output from 55 to an impressive 62 horsepower, enhancing the car’s performance significantly. The lightweight construction combined with the more powerful engine made the Coupé GFH a promising performer in its class. The Renault 4CV Coupé GFH made its debut at the 1954 Geneva Auto Salon, where it garnered attention for its innovative design and engineering. Despite its potential and the interest it generated, the car remained a one-off prototype due to financial constraints. The last recorded sighting of this unique vehicle was in Paris in 1969, after which it disappeared from public view. The story of the 4CV Coupé GFH is a fascinating chapter in automotive history, highlighting the creativity and ambition of its creators. Despite the challenges and the project’s ultimate fate, the car remains a testament to the ingenuity and passion that drive automotive innovation.
