01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Porsche Panamera Touring Vistotal is a coachbuilt modification based on the standard Porsche Panamera platform, executed by Carrozzeria Castagna of Milan. Developed as part of the firm’s Vistotal program, the vehicle introduces a reinterpreted exterior access system and bespoke finishes while preserving the original mechanical and structural foundation of the production Panamera. The base vehicle retains the standard steel monocoque chassis and powertrain configurations offered by Porsche. Donor vehicles for the Vistotal conversion include both the Panamera sedan and Sport Turismo body styles, with drivetrains ranging from V6 and V8 petrol engines to hybrid-electric configurations. Castagna’s intervention does not modify engine internals, suspension geometry, or performance characteristics. The defining element of the Vistotal variant is the substitution of the conventional front and rear side doors with a single gull-wing “mono-door” on each side. These composite doors, constructed primarily from carbon fibre, are hinged at the roof and open upward in a single continuous movement. The design spans the length from the A-pillar to the rear quarter, allowing access to both front and rear seating positions. The system includes integrated electronic opening mechanisms and concealed exterior handles. Alterations to the door apertures required corresponding modifications to exterior body panels, roofline transitions, and structural supports. Interior appointments are subject to client specification. Castagna offered customization of upholstery materials, colour schemes, and trim surfaces, while retaining the dashboard, instrument cluster, and infotainment systems supplied by the original manufacturer. The modified vehicle maintains standard safety systems, climate controls, and drivetrain electronics. At least one example of the Panamera Touring Vistotal is confirmed to have been completed, based on a Panamera 4 E-Hybrid platform. This example featured a metallic paint scheme, bespoke interior trim, and full Vistotal access conversion. No public record of the chassis number, commissioning party, or production sequence has been disclosed. The vehicle does not appear in Porsche or Castagna registries beyond promotional documentation. The Panamera Touring Vistotal illustrates a rare application of traditional coachbuilding principles to a contemporary luxury-performance vehicle. It aligns with Castagna’s practice of bespoke reinterpretations of series-production automobiles while demonstrating the adaptability of modern monocoque platforms to limited-series modification.
