01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Mini Wagon by Carrozzeria Castagna is a bespoke reinterpretation of the classic Mini, blending British charm with Italian craftsmanship. Unveiled in 2004, this custom-built shooting brake pays homage to the original Mini Traveller and Countryman, featuring a 25 cm extension to the rear boot, enhancing luggage capacity without compromising agility. Over 200 modifications were made to the base model, emphasizing its unique styling and functionality. Externally, the Mini Wagon showcases hand-crafted wooden elements, reminiscent of the “woody” aesthetic popular in mid-20th-century station wagons. These wooden accents, comprising 20 individual pieces, are meticulously selected to match the vehicle’s color, adorning the sides, dashboard, and door tops. Inside, the cabin exudes luxury with natural leather upholstery, finely chosen fabrics, and a distinctive wicker kit covering the luggage compartment, ensuring both elegance and practicality. Performance-wise, the Mini Wagon retains the spirited driving experience characteristic of the Mini brand. Powered by a supercharged inline-4 engine producing approximately 163 bhp, it accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about 7.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of around 218 km/h. The vehicle’s dimensions are thoughtfully adjusted, with a length of 3876 mm, width of 1688 mm, and height of 1408 mm, maintaining a balanced and dynamic profile. Carrozzeria Castagna, with its rich history dating back to 1849, has a legacy of crafting exclusive, tailor-made vehicles. The Mini Wagon exemplifies this tradition, offering a harmonious blend of classic design and modern innovation. Each unit is built to order, allowing clients to personalize their vehicle to their exact specifications, making the Mini Wagon not just a car, but a statement of individuality and style.
