01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Lancia Aurelia B50 Coupé Vignale, crafted on one of the earliest Lancia B50 chassis (B50-1044) in June 1950, stands as a testament to timeless automotive elegance. With its influential coupé coachwork by Carrozzeria Vignale, under the creative direction of chief designer Giovanni Michelotti, this masterpiece embodies the pinnacle of Italian automotive design. Originally delivered to Italian racing driver Giovanni Bracco, the Aurelia was commissioned with a modern sleek body by Carrozzeria Vignale. Legend has it that Bracco’s friend, Gianni Lancia, inspired by the design, initiated the creation of the iconic B20 GT by Ghia on a shortened wheelbase. However, in reality, the B20 GT was an evolution of the Fiat 1400 Supergioiello, also bearing Michelotti’s design influence. Passing through various hands over the years, the Aurelia found its way back to its origins in 1983 when it was acquired by Giulio Vignale. For nearly three decades, it resided in Turin under the care of the Vignale family until 2010. Remarkably, this Aurelia has never undergone restoration; its interior and exterior remain in original condition, serving as a stunning time capsule of automotive history. Expertly maintained by its current caretaker, this Aurelia continues to captivate with its unmatched beauty and grace. Each detail, from its flowing lines to its meticulously preserved interior, tells a story of Italian craftsmanship and ingenuity. As a rare example of automotive heritage, the Lancia Aurelia B50 Coupé Vignale stands as a symbol of the golden age of Italian design and engineering. Its journey through time, from the hands of racing drivers to the halls of automotive aficionados, serves as a reminder of its enduring legacy and the passion it ignites in all who behold it.
