01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Pininfarina Brio, unveiled in 1983, was a concept car built on the platform of the Fiat Ritmo 125 TC Abarth. It was conceived by Pininfarina as a sports coupe that combined clean, aerodynamic lines with the mechanical prowess of the Fiat Ritmo Abarth, known for its performance-oriented capabilities. The design of the Brio emphasized sleek aerodynamics, achieving a coefficient of drag (CD) of 0.29, which was quite impressive for its time. Its styling was characterized by essential lines that underscored its sporty intentions while maintaining an elegant and refined appearance. Pininfarina envisioned the Brio to potentially be produced in small series, catering to discerning customers who valued both performance and aesthetic appeal. The concept aimed to offer a balance of great drivability, beauty, and comfort, aligning with the tradition of Italian automotive design excellence. Despite its promising attributes, the Pininfarina Brio remained a concept car and did not enter production. Nevertheless, it served as a showcase of Pininfarina’s design prowess and their ability to transform a mass-market platform like the Fiat Ritmo into a sophisticated and desirable sports coupe concept. The Brio’s legacy lives on as a testament to the creativity and innovation of automotive design in the 1980s.
