01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1100 Cabriolet Allemano was a one-off cabriolet produced in 1950 by Allemano. Its design is attributed to Giovanni Michelotti. Finished in red, the open car combined a Fiat 1100 Cabriolet identity with a separate Allemano body, placing it among the Italian special-bodied cars recorded in the immediate post-war period. The car was presented as an individual creation rather than a series-built model, with its single-unit status forming part of its recorded description.

Michelotti’s attribution connects the cabriolet with the designer’s work for Italian coachbuilders during this period. The body used long, flowing lines and rounded forms, with a low open profile characteristic of the car’s cabriolet configuration. Its proportions were defined by a long bonnet, a compact passenger compartment and a rear body section that continued the sweep of the flanks. The red finish is part of the recorded description of this particular Fiat 1100 Cabriolet Allemano.

Allemano showed the car at the 1950 Turin Motor Show. The appearance placed the cabriolet among the coachbuilder’s display cars at Turin in that year, rather than identifying it as a standard Fiat production body. The same year, it appeared at the 1950 Concorso d’Eleganza Lido di Venezia, where it won its category. These two 1950 appearances establish the known public chronology for the car: a Turin show presentation by Allemano and a category victory at the Venetian concours.

The Fiat 1100 Cabriolet Allemano is recorded as a single example. No production series, mechanical specification, chassis number or subsequent ownership history is established here. Its documented identity rests on the 1950 date, its Allemano coachwork, the Giovanni Michelotti attribution, the red cabriolet body and its appearances at Turin and the Lido di Venezia concours.
