01 / THE STORY

History & context

The 1957 Ferrari 250 GT Speciale Pininfarina, chassis 0841GT, is a unique prototype that showcases Ferrari’s transition into refined grand touring cars. Built as a one-off Coupe Speciale by Pininfarina, this left-hand-drive example was finished in Max Meyer 16439 night blue with an elegant blue 3087 leather interior, emphasizing a sophisticated yet sporty aesthetic. As a prototype for the 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe series, 0841GT featured distinct design elements that set it apart from the production models, possibly serving as a testing ground for stylistic and mechanical refinements. While retaining the classic proportions of the 250 GT lineage, its refined detailing and luxurious touches made it stand out as a bespoke creation. On December 13, 1957, the car was delivered to its first owner, Jean-Claude Roussel, a resident of Biarritz, France (Paris registration). It was registered with the license plate “6443 RN 64,” indicating its location in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques region. Unlike many Ferraris of this era that saw extensive racing use, Ferrari 250 GT 0841GT appears to have been primarily a road car, likely enjoyed along the scenic roads of the French Riviera. Despite its significance as a prototype and one-of-a-kind commission, much of its later history remains undocumented. However, its role in Ferrari’s evolution of the 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe series makes it an important piece of the brand’s heritage, blending high-performance engineering with the elegance of Pininfarina’s coachbuilding expertise. If rediscovered today, it would be an exceptionally rare collector’s item, representing an early step in Ferrari’s pursuit of both speed and luxury.
