Schieppati

Augusto Schieppati began working in Milan’s coachbuilding trade as a child and established his own workshop in 1898. On 24 July 1905, the partnership Schieppati & C. was formally constituted in Milan, with Augusto Schieppati as its managing and unlimited-liability partner. The legal date marks the incorporation of the company, not the beginning of his independent work.

Schieppati produced custom automobile bodies and used lightweight construction techniques influenced by aviation, including ash timber and aluminium tubing. Its work included vehicles for Diatto, ambulances for the Red Cross and specialist conversions. The workshop suffered damage during the bombing of Milan in February 1943. Its later corporate history and the distinction between cessation of operations and administrative closure require careful treatment.
