01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Fiat 1100 Elite was a special version made by Vignale. When the new Fiat 1100-103 was launched in the early 1950s as a practical car aimed at the middle class, it wasn’t long before Italy’s top coachbuilders began to reinterpret it in more refined, exclusive forms. One of the most elegant among them was Vignale’s take on the model: the Fiat 1100-103 Elite. A fitting name for a car designed to appeal to discerning buyers who wanted something unique, personal, and sophisticated. The design was penned by the prolific Giovanni Michelotti, whose signature is evident in several standout details. The rear features a distinctive tail—not to be confused with the TV version—with a flowing contour above the fins that evokes American styling cues of the era. The front grille is bold and chromed, incorporating fog lights and recalling prestigious models like the Ferrari 212 Inter, also bodied by Vignale. The Elite also boasted several refined features: unique aluminum side trims, a larger rear window for improved visibility, and clever trunk modifications. The spare tire was hidden under the floor, and the fuel filler cap was relocated inside the trunk for a cleaner exterior. Even more innovative was the fold-down rear seatback—an uncommon solution at the time—allegedly designed to accommodate items such as paintings or art pieces. Metallic two-tone paint schemes further reinforced the car’s exclusive nature.

- DONOR_BASE_PROJECTION — base-model technical fields projected from CI-MORETTI-LISTING-70487 because make/model/year match exactly. This does not assert that the coachbuilt/special vehicle retained identical tuning or performance. | Source-backed donor/model-level baseline for Fiat 1100/103 first series (1953–1954): Inline-4, 1089 cc, 4-speed manual, rear-wheel drive. Power output is intentionally not inherited because TV/elaborated derivatives used higher-output versions; coachbuilt-body dimensions, weight and maximum speed are also not inherited.
