THE STORY
Overview
Maurizio Corbi was born on July 12, 1960, in Sermoneta, a medieval village in central Italy near Rome. His passion for car design began at the age of 11 and quickly became a lifelong ambition, despite the absence at the time of formal schools dedicated to automotive design.
In the early 1980s, he gained recognition by winning major automotive design competitions, including Autosprint (1982) and Gente Motori in collaboration with Ford Europe and Ghia (1986), which led to an internship at Ford/Ghia in Turin. He began his professional career as an interior designer at Aviointeriors S.p.A., where from 1983 to 1987 he worked on aircraft and train projects, developing strong professional foundations.
In 1988, after meeting Nuccio Bertone, he joined Stile Bertone, but soon realized his true goal was to work on Ferrari projects. In April 1989, he joined Pininfarina. Over more than three decades, he played a key role during Ferrari’s most celebrated design era, contributing to landmark models such as the F456 GT, F50, F355, and 550 Maranello, as well as later projects including the California.
Alongside Ferrari, Corbi worked on numerous projects for international manufacturers, from concept cars to production vehicles. His career spans the transition from traditional hand-drawn design to digital tools, blending classical craftsmanship with evolving technologies, always driven by the satisfaction of seeing ideas transformed into form and substance.
