01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat Song concept car, designed by Pininfarina and based on the Fiat Bravo chassis, made a memorable debut at the 1996 Turin Motor Show. This show was notably dominated by the Fiat Bravo and Brava models, reflecting Fiat’s innovative approach to automotive design. Among the 25 concept cars introduced, 17 were based on the new Fiat models, with ten being ‘official’ concepts sponsored by Fiat and displayed collectively, and seven being ‘unofficial.’ The Fiat Song concept was designed to harness the advantages of a compact mono-box configuration, yet it was tailored specifically for off-road use. This distinguished it from its sibling concept, the Fiat Sing, which was designed for a more sporty and aggressive road experience. Pininfarina’s design for the Fiat Song emphasized ruggedness and versatility, making it a compelling option for off-road enthusiasts. The concept featured robust bodywork, increased ground clearance, and protective elements that underscored its off-road capabilities. Despite its utilitarian focus, the Fiat Song retained the stylish and sophisticated design language characteristic of Pininfarina, ensuring that it appealed to both aesthetic and functional sensibilities. Inside, the Fiat Song likely combined advanced technology with practical features suited for off-road driving, though specific interior details were not highlighted in the initial presentation. The concept aimed to offer a blend of comfort and durability, making it suitable for various terrains and driving conditions. Overall, the Fiat Song concept car by Pininfarina stood out at the 1996 Turin Motor Show as a bold and innovative vehicle that pushed the boundaries of what an off-road vehicle could be, while also showcasing the collaborative prowess of Fiat and Pininfarina in automotive design.
