01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Moretti 2500 SS Coupé made its grand debut at the prestigious 1962 Geneva Motor Show, capturing the attention of enthusiasts with its sleek design and potent performance. Crafted under the visionary eye of Giovanni Michelotti, it emerged as the coupé counterpart to the 2300 Cabriolet, itself based on the Fiat 2300 Ghia coupé by Sartorelli, unveiled just a month prior in Turin. Priced at 2,700,000 Lire for the base version, equivalent to approximately €32,000 today, the Moretti 2500 SS also offered a more potent 2454cc version at around €37,000. Boasting enhanced power and a distinct C-pillar design, the 2500 model outsold its less powerful counterpart with ease. This sophisticated GT exudes the quintessential charm of early 1960s Italian design, characterized by its sharp lines and meticulous attention to detail. Under the hood, Moretti ingeniously expanded the engine capacity to 2454cc, delivering an impressive output of 170hp in the 2+2 coupe configuration. Inside, the Moretti 2500 SS indulged occupants with a luxuriously appointed interior, featuring a fully instrumented dashboard borrowed from the Fiat 2300S. Deep bucket seats, a front passenger footrest, grab bar, electric windows, and iconic Borrani wire wheels further underscored the fusion of luxury and speed embodied by this exceptional vehicle. While records suggest that as few as 20 of these remarkable cars may have been produced, the exact number of survivors remains uncertain, adding to the allure and exclusivity of the Moretti 2500 SS Coupé. A true testament to Italian automotive craftsmanship and innovation, it continues to captivate enthusiasts with its timeless elegance and exhilarating performance.
