01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Cizeta Fenice TTJ Spyder, a striking open-top variant of the Cizeta V16T, was produced in 2003 and unveiled at the prestigious Concorso Italiano in Monterey, California. This unique vehicle was commissioned by a Japanese collector, who sought to breathe new life into the renowned Cizeta brand, renaming it the Fenice TTJ Spyder. The creation of the Fenice is particularly notable given the tumultuous history of Cizeta. After the company declared bankruptcy in 1994, there were still sufficient components left in the factory to produce this exceptional Spyder and another coupe version. The effort to create the Fenice TTJ Spyder involved utilizing these remaining parts, showcasing the resilience and enduring appeal of the Cizeta marque. Designed by the legendary Marcello Gandini, the Fenice TTJ Spyder features a distinctive and aggressive design that retains the bold and angular lines characteristic of the original V16T. The open-top configuration adds an extra layer of exclusivity and allure, appealing to collectors and enthusiasts who appreciate rare and unique automobiles. Under the hood, the Fenice TTJ Spyder boasts the same formidable V16 engine as the original Cizeta V16T. This powerhouse consists of two flat-plane V8s mounted transversely, delivering an impressive blend of performance and engineering excellence. The engine’s layout and performance capabilities were ahead of their time, solidifying the Cizeta’s status as a remarkable supercar. The unveiling of the Fenice TTJ Spyder at Concorso Italiano marked a significant moment for the brand, highlighting the passion and dedication of its creators and collectors. This rare Spyder not only serves as a testament to the legacy of Cizeta but also underscores the timeless appeal of innovative automotive design and engineering.

Specification notes
Fenice TTJ Spyder invariant baseline remains V16, 5-speed manual, RWD, wheelbase 2690 mm. EPOCAUTO adds that the open project was initially to be called 'California', was frozen by the 1994 bankruptcy, and was later completed under Cizeta Automobili USA. The roof was treated as an emergency/lightweight cover and the engine lid was split into two sections to create a roof attachment point. Published references still disagree on displacement, output and nominal length, so those fields remain blank pending a primary technical sheet.
