01 / THE STORY
History & context
Fiat 1500 Berlina 4 Posti Allemano was a four-seat coachbuilt Fiat built by Allemano in 1963. Giovanni Michelotti designed the car. It combined Fiat mechanical components with a separately styled body, produced during the early 1960s, when Fiat pursued more contemporary forms across its range. The collaboration gave Allemano responsibility for the coachbuilt execution while Michelotti defined the car’s exterior character.
The design used a streamlined silhouette and clean, elegant lines. Michelotti’s treatment placed particular emphasis on proportion, with the body’s form and its relationship to the Fiat mechanical basis determining the finished car’s appearance. The four-seat configuration retained the practical role implied by the Berlina designation while receiving a more individual coachbuilt presentation.
Allemano built the body with traditional coachbuilding techniques and selected materials intended to provide a durable, distinctive finish. The construction reflected the early-1960s approach to limited-production Italian bodywork, in which the coachbuilder’s work centred on body proportions, panel construction and detail execution rather than a wholesale change to the underlying Fiat mechanical layout.
The car used a robust chassis and suspension arrangement. Its mechanical configuration was developed for reliability and performance, while contemporary engineering practices supported balanced road manners. The bodywork and mechanical basis were brought together as a single four-seat Fiat rather than as a separate competition or specialist derivative.
Production records documented quantities for the model. Surviving examples have been preserved in private collections and institutional archives, where they provide physical reference for the construction and styling of Allemano’s Fiat-based four-seat coachwork. Its four-seat layout remained central to the Berlina 4 Posti designation.
