01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Abarth 2200 Cabriolet, unveiled by Carrozzeria Allemano in 1958 and designed by the talented Giovanni Michelotti, stands as an exquisite example of mid-century Italian automotive craftsmanship. This 2-door convertible, also referred to as the Abarth 2200 Spider, embodies a stylish blend of performance and elegance, with its sleek Michelotti design and attention to detail. Under the hood, the Abarth 2200 is equipped with a front-mounted, naturally aspirated 2.2-liter, 6-cylinder engine. This overhead valve unit produces 120 bhp (122 PS/89 kW) at 5400 rpm, offering spirited performance for its time. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 4-speed manual gearbox, providing a direct and engaging driving experience. Visually, the Abarth 2200 Cabriolet Allemano is distinguished by a number of unique design elements. The car features headlights reminiscent of the distinctive “Chinese” style seen on Rolls-Royce models of the era, giving it a refined and somewhat exotic appearance. Its functional, large, imposing front grille further enhances its presence on the road, contributing to a bold yet elegant stance. With its combination of refined aesthetics and solid performance, the Abarth 2200 Cabriolet Allemano remains a captivating symbol of 1950s Italian automotive design, offering a perfect balance of form and function.
