01 / THE STORY

History & context

The PF Sigma explored passive safety through a rigid central occupant cell and front and rear structures designed to deform progressively and absorb impact energy.

Its occupant-protection package included sliding doors, deformable steering elements, recessed or padded controls and interior surfaces, safety glazing and dedicated seat-belt anchorage provisions. These features were described in l’Unità on 6 May 1968.

Historical research note

A period article reports that Pininfarina first presented the PF Sigma safety prototype at the Turin International Motor Show in November 1963.

Specification notes
Pininfarina Sigma (1963) was a dedicated safety-research study rather than a model-specific production derivative. Published material documents structural protection, short steering column, sliding doors and energy-management concepts, but no project-specific propulsion specification; no powertrain is materialized.
