01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Moretti 132 Coupé, built in 1972 and designed by the talented Dany Brawand, made its debut at the 1972 Turin Auto Salon. As with many other models, Moretti took an existing Fiat vehicle and crafted a unique and exclusive version. In this instance, the Fiat 132 served as the foundation for Moretti’s ambitious creation. Throughout the years, Moretti became known for transforming Fiat models into limited-edition cars with unique styling and craftsmanship, and the 132 Coupé was no exception. The Fiat 132 itself was a mid-sized sedan produced by Fiat, introduced as a replacement for the Fiat 125. However, Moretti sought to elevate this practical yet somewhat conventional sedan into something far more stylish and exclusive. They did so by designing two distinct styles of a four-seat coupé based on the Fiat 132. The most striking feature of the Moretti 132 Coupé was its unique ‘wrap-around’ body design, a signature element conceived by Brawand. This flexible, protective element enveloped the body, giving the car a streamlined, modern aesthetic that was distinct from the standard Fiat 132. The result was a harmonious blend of elegance and sportiness, characteristic of Moretti’s design philosophy. Brawand’s influence was evident in the car’s smooth lines and the creative integration of design elements that set the Moretti apart from its Fiat counterpart. While the interior was known to be more refined and luxurious compared to the standard model, the car still maintained the mechanical reliability and performance of the Fiat 132. Unfortunately, it remains unclear just how many units of the Moretti 132 Coupé were produced. Moretti was a small manufacturer, and many of its models were produced in limited numbers, often tailored to individual customers. As a result, the precise production figures for the 132 Coupé have remained somewhat of a mystery among automotive enthusiasts and collectors. Today, the Moretti 132 Coupé is a rare and coveted vehicle, representing a fascinating chapter in automotive history where Moretti’s craftsmanship and design innovation left a lasting mark on Fiat’s more conventional models. Collectors who are lucky enough to own one cherish its uniqueness and the story it tells of Italian ingenuity and automotive passion.
