01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Lancia Aprilia Berlina Boneschi was a coachbuilt saloon produced by Carrozzeria Boneschi on the Lancia Aprilia platform in the immediate postwar period. It represented a more formal and elegant interpretation of one of Lancia’s most advanced pre-war models, combining the Aprilia’s sophisticated engineering with the Milanese coachbuilder’s refined bodywork. The standard Lancia Aprilia was already technically unusual for its time, with its narrow-angle V4 engine, independent suspension and aerodynamic body concept. Boneschi retained the general mechanical base, but gave the car a more distinctive and prestigious appearance. The body featured a long, flowing roofline, rounded rear quarters and smooth, continuous side surfaces, giving the saloon a more luxurious character than the production Aprilia. The front end was redesigned with a broad horizontal grille, integrated chrome details and large round headlamps. The bonnet line was clean and gently curved, while the side profile showed careful attention to proportion, with a low beltline, generous windows and a rear section that tapered softly toward the tail. The result was a car that looked modern but still formal enough for upper-class postwar use. In 1947, this Lancia Aprilia Berlina Boneschi achieved important recognition at two Italian concours d’elegance events. It won Best in Class at both the Turin Concours d’Elegance and the San Remo Concours d’Elegance, confirming the quality of Boneschi’s design and execution. The car is significant as an example of early postwar Italian coachbuilding, when established carrozzerie were still creating bespoke bodies on refined production chassis. It also shows Boneschi’s ability to work beyond large luxury cars, applying its style to a compact but technically advanced Lancia.

DONOR_BASE_PROJECTION — base-model technical fields projected from METEOR-LANCIA-APRILIA-COUPE-1947 because make/model/year match exactly. This does not assert that the coachbuilt/special vehicle retained identical tuning or performance. | Source-backed donor/model-level baseline for Lancia Aprilia second series (1940–1949 in this projection): narrow-angle V4, 1486 cc, 48 CV at 4300 rpm, 4-speed manual, rear-wheel drive. Coachbuilt-body dimensions, weight and maximum speed are intentionally not inherited.
