01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Jaguar XJ220 Pininfarina, created in 1995, represents a remarkable bespoke transformation tailored specifically for the Sultan of Brunei and his brother, Prince Jefri. Renowned for their extensive collection of rare and custom vehicles, the royal brothers commissioned Pininfarina, in collaboration with coachbuilder Coggiola, to reimagine the already luxurious Jaguar XJ220. The result is a unique vehicle that maintains the essence of the XJ220 while incorporating distinctive design elements and upgrades. The bespoke bodywork features fixed headlights, departing from the original pop-up design, and rear lights that resemble modern LED light bars, offering a futuristic touch. The rear wing was also reworked into a sophisticated double-vane structure, enhancing both the aerodynamics and aesthetic appeal of the car. The interior received a significant overhaul, with a new custom interior package that elevated the cabin’s luxury to match the car’s external grandeur. Complementing these modifications, the vehicle was finished in a distinguished dark green paint, exuding an air of exclusivity and refinement. It futured a Prodrive transmission which was also used on several other Pininfarina Projects for the Brunei Royal Family. Despite these extensive customizations, the Pininfarina XJ220 retained its core mechanical components, including the aluminum chassis, the iconic XJ220 rims, and the powerful supercharged V6 engine. This ensured that the bespoke model maintained the performance and driving dynamics that the XJ220 was known for. Two were built, one caught fire and got destroyed, due to the drivers mistake, the others location is unknown.
