01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1100 TV Spring by Carrozzeria Boneschi was a limited-production coupé introduced in the early 1950s, built on the Fiat 1100 TV (Turismo Veloce) chassis. The 1100 TV, launched in 1953, was the performance version of the standard Fiat 1100, equipped with a 1,089 cc inline four-cylinder engine producing around 50 horsepower and paired with a four-speed manual gearbox. This configuration offered improved performance compared to the base model and provided a suitable platform for special-bodied variants by independent coachbuilders. Boneschi developed the TV Spring as a compact two-door coupé that adopted the clean, rational forms typical of the firm’s design language. The bodywork displayed taut surfaces and straight-line contours, with a low roofline, fastback profile, and a simplified front grille. The overall approach was consistent with Boneschi’s “linea tesa” principles, which favored geometric clarity and avoided excessive decoration. The design included practical features such as integrated bumpers, wide glass surfaces, and standard Fiat mechanical components, which kept the model functional and easy to maintain. The Fiat 1100 TV Spring was first shown at the 1953 Turin Auto Show, presented as one of the coachbuilt interpretations of the new Turismo Veloce. In 1954 it appeared at the San Remo Concorso d’Eleganza, where its balanced proportions and contemporary lines were noted among other special-bodied Fiats. Production was limited, as was typical for Boneschi’s projects, and the model did not extend beyond a small series.

Historical research note

The Boneschi Fiat 1100 TV Spring is securely documented as a named small-series model, shown at Turin in 1953 and San Remo in 1954. No individual chassis roster or exact-chassis market history has been recovered.
