01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione represented a pioneering exploration into advanced aesthetics and race-inspired design, setting the stage for future mid-engined Ferraris. Unveiled by Pininfarina at the 1967 Frankfurt Motor Show, this Berlinetta Prototipo Competizione was not only a working prototype but also an exclusive design study that captivated automotive enthusiasts. Characterized by its compact size and dynamic contours, the Dino 206 Competizione exuded a strong personality, with gracefully rounded lines and powerful fenders that hinted at its racing pedigree. Pininfarina drew inspiration from their own Dino 206 Competition cars from previous years, integrating many preexisting design cues into this striking prototype. Built on the 206 S chassis and conceived by the talented designer Paolo Martin, the Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione, affectionately known as “The Yellow Dino,” showcased a distinctive aesthetic vision that pushed the boundaries of automotive design. While the car was never intended for production, its design elements, with the exception of the gullwing doors, left a lasting impact and were later incorporated into the iconic Dino 206 GT road car. The legacy of the Ferrari Dino 206 Competizione lives on in the timeless beauty and performance of the Dino 206 GT, serving as a testament to Ferrari’s commitment to innovation and excellence in both racing and road car design.
