01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Citroën Osée, a striking concept car designed by Pininfarina for the renowned French automaker Citroën, made its debut at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show, leaving an indelible mark with its avant-garde design and innovative features. Under the sleek exterior, the Citroën Osée boasts a mid-mounted 3-liter V6 engine, delivering a formidable 200 bhp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 267 N⋅m at 3750 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 5-speed ZF automatic transmission, ensuring a dynamic driving experience. The vehicle rides on Michelin PAX tires and relies on Brembo brakes for stopping power. The line, spearheaded by Pininfarina’s designer, Carlo Bonzanigo, positions the driver in the center, flanked by two passengers on either side, reminiscent of the iconic McLaren F1 layout. Pininfarina Studio’s drew inspiration from the French-made Matra Bagheera of the early 1970s, infusing a touch of nostalgia into the modern concept. One of the Osée’s standout features is its distinctive cockpit door, reminiscent of fighter aircraft. The conventional doors, windscreen, and roof found in typical cars are replaced by a single hydraulically operated canopy door, controlled remotely. This innovative design choice not only adds to the car’s aerodynamic appeal but also reinforces its futuristic and unconventional character. The Citroën Osée pushes the boundaries further by eliminating traditional side mirrors. In their place, an LCD screen behind the steering wheel provides the driver with a rear view from inside the vehicle, embracing technology to enhance visibility and streamline the car’s profile. Equipped with Citroën’s Hydroactive III suspension technology, the Osée allows for adjustable suspension height while driving, contributing to a smooth and adaptive driving experience. Overall, the Citroën Osée stands as a testament to Pininfarina’s design prowess and Citroën’s commitment to innovation, showcasing a harmonious blend of cutting-edge technology and timeless automotive inspiration.
