01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Bugatti EB110 was an iconic supercar that marked Bugatti’s return to the world stage in the 1990s, combining cutting-edge technology with a rich heritage. The car underwent significant modifications, with its chassis evolving from aluminum to advanced carbon fiber, offering a leap in both strength and lightweight efficiency. Benedini redesigned the car, refining the original style created by the legendary Marcello Gandini, who had also designed other automotive icons like the Lamborghini Miura. The EB110 was officially unveiled on September 14, 1991, at Place De La Défense in Paris. The following day, a second presentation was held in Molsheim, the site of Bugatti’s original workshop. These locations were symbolic, with the Molsheim event connecting the car to its storied past. The timing of the unveiling was no coincidence: September 15, 1991, marked the 110th anniversary of Ettore Bugatti’s birth, a fitting tribute to the founder of the brand. This explains the name of the car, EB 110 GT, with “EB” standing for Ettore Bugatti, “110” representing the anniversary, and “GT” signifying its status as a Gran Turismo. Under the hood, the EB110 was equipped with state-of-the-art technology. It was powered by an extraordinary V12 engine that featured four turbochargers, delivering exceptional power and performance. The car was capable of standing toe-to-toe with other top-tier supercars of the era, such as the Lamborghini Diablo and Ferrari F40. With all-wheel drive, advanced aerodynamics, and cutting-edge engineering, the Bugatti EB110 not only revived the legendary marque but also positioned itself as a benchmark in the supercar world of the 1990s, embodying both innovation and a celebration of Bugatti’s unparalleled legacy.
