01 / THE STORY
History & context
The Italdesign Zerouno, unveiled at the 87th Geneva International Motor Show in 2017, marked the inaugural release under the newly established brand, Italdesign Automobili Speciali. With a production limited to just five units, the Zerouno was crafted with a focus on catering to collectors and visionary enthusiasts, utilizing the Audi R8 as its base. Notably, this special car seamlessly combines the characteristics of a racing vehicle with high-performance capabilities, all while obtaining type-approval for regular road use. Constructed around a modular chassis composed of carbon fiber and aluminum, the Italdesign Zerouno boasts a formidable naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine. This powerhouse enables the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in a mere 3.2 seconds, reaching an impressive top speed of 330 km/h. Furthermore, the company introduced a unique open-top version of the Zerouno called Duerta, adding an extra layer of exclusivity to this already limited production. The Zerouno’s bodywork is entirely crafted from carbon fiber, contributing to its sleek and lightweight design. Measuring 4847 millimeters in length, 1970 millimeters in width, and 1204 millimeters in height, the initial concept was carefully executed by designers and engineers working in tandem. The development process of the Zerouno highlights Italdesign’s commitment to simultaneous engineering, a methodology refined over the company’s nearly fifty-year history. This approach involves designers and engineers collaborating in real-time, ensuring that styling solutions align seamlessly with functional feasibility checks. This meticulous process results in an ideal compromise that meets both design and performance requirements. Owners of the Zerouno by Automobili Speciali are presented with extensive customization options, allowing each vehicle to be truly unique. From personalized bodywork colors to full carbon look finishes, Italdesign also offers various optional packages for both the exterior and interior of the cockpit. With this level of attention to detail and exclusivity, the Zerouno stands as a testament to Italdesign’s legacy of innovation and craftsmanship in the automotive industry.
