Poccardi

THE STORY

Overview

Carrozzeria Poccardi was the name used for special-bodied automobiles developed by Dante Poccardi’s firm Ellebi, rather than a separate legal company. Ellebi began in Turin in 1954 as a maker of automotive accessories and later expanded into metal pressing and body-panel production, moving its operations to the Turin area.

Under the Poccardi name the firm presented the Fiat 124 Shopping, a special estate car styled by Pietro Frua, in 1967. Two further Fiat 125-based prototypes followed in 1968 and 1969. Ellebi also produced body panels for other Italian coachbuilders, including Zagato’s Lancia Fulvia Sport, and undertook limited body construction for Monteverdi. The 1954 date therefore belongs to Ellebi’s business history; it must not be treated as the incorporation of an independent company named Carrozzeria Poccardi.
