01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Lamborghini Miura P400 S Millechiodi by Bertone is a tribute model based on the original Miura P400 S, produced between 1968 and 1971. The Millechiodi version references period racing modifications and takes its name—Italian for “a thousand nails”—from its riveted construction style, inspired by 1970s race-prepped Miuras. The original Miura P400 debuted at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show and was notable as the world’s first mid-engined series production supercar. Early models were considered works in progress, with Lamborghini implementing numerous revisions during production to improve reliability, comfort, and drivability. In late 1968, the upgraded P400 S variant was introduced at the Turin Auto Show. Improvements included a revised suspension setup for better handling, upgraded build quality, and enhanced interior features. The engine, still a transversely mounted 4.0-liter V12, received modifications to the cylinder heads, increasing output to a quoted 370 bhp. Later production models also featured ventilated disc brakes. Exterior changes on the P400 S included chrome window surrounds and an “S” badge on the rear deck. Interior upgrades included electric windows, improved carpeting, optional leather upholstery, redesigned switchgear, a passenger grab handle, and a glovebox lid. Basic air conditioning was available on later examples. A total of 338 Miura P400 S units were produced between November 1968 and early 1971. The Lamborghini Miura P400 S Millechiodi, while not an official factory model, is recognized as a high-quality custom build that pays homage to the Miura’s racing heritage and design legacy.
