01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Lloyd Alexander 600 TS Frua was a distinctive and limited-production vehicle, with only 47 examples ever built. Many of these cars were constructed by Ghia Aigle, the Swiss coachbuilder, under the direction of renowned designer Pietro Frua. The 600 TS Frua was a special variant of the Lloyd Alexander, a popular model produced by the German automaker Lloyd Motoren Werke. Pietro Frua’s design for the 600 TS added a touch of elegance and sportiness to the small, practical Alexander model. The coupé featured a more aerodynamic and streamlined body that appealed to a growing market for stylish compact cars in the 1950s. Frua’s influence was evident in the car’s sleek lines, distinctive proportions, and a level of craftsmanship that set it apart from the standard Alexander sedans. The construction of these models was handled by Ghia Aigle, a Swiss subsidiary of the famous Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia, which was known for its high-quality craftsmanship. Ghia Aigle worked under Frua’s guidance to ensure that the design matched his vision, blending refined aesthetics with the practicality of a compact vehicle. Although the Lloyd Alexander 600 TS Frua was produced in very limited numbers, it remains an intriguing and rare example of 1950s automotive design, combining German engineering with Italian styling. Despite its limited production, the 600 TS Frua holds a special place in the history of small luxury cars, admired for its beauty, rarity, and craftsmanship.
