01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1100 Sestiere is a unique, one-off car that was built in 1949 by the renowned Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Motto. The car was commissioned by racing driver Gino Valenzano, who was known for his involvement in motorsport during that era. Carrozzeria Motto, which had a reputation for creating distinctive, custom-designed cars, was tasked with creating a vehicle that combined performance with elegance, as was the custom at the time. The Fiat 1100 Sestiere was based on the Fiat 1100, a popular car produced by Fiat in the post-war period, but it was heavily modified for Valenzano’s needs. The car was crafted with a sleek, aerodynamic body designed for improved performance on the racetrack. The modifications made to the car included a lighter body, which contributed to its agility and speed, and a more powerful engine setup compared to the standard Fiat 1100. This bespoke creation featured a striking appearance, with a combination of classic Italian styling and purposeful racing modifications. The Sestiere was not just a visual spectacle but also represented the drive for performance that was characteristic of the time. It was a one-of-a-kind car, created specifically for Valenzano, and it stood out both on the race track and in car design circles. Although the Fiat 1100 Sestiere was not produced in large numbers, its uniqueness and connection to a prominent racing figure make it an important piece in the history of Fiat and Italian automotive design. The car’s one-off status, combined with its origins as a personalized creation for Gino Valenzano, solidifies its place as a rare and valuable collector’s item.
