01 / THE STORY

History & context

The Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile stands as a captivating embodiment of post-war Italian automotive ingenuity, crafted under the guidance of Engineer Fabio Luigi Rapi within Fiat’s Special Bodywork Section “Carrozzerie Speciali“. Like many iconic Turin cars of its era, it made its European debut at the prestigious Geneva Automobile Salon in 1955, expanding Fiat’s diverse lineup with the introduction of the TV Trasformabile variant. Drawing inspiration from the prevailing tastes of the time, the TV Trasformabile exudes an unmistakable American flair, evident in its generous chrome accents adorning the grille, bumper guards, and panoramic windshield. Whitewall tires further enhance its aesthetic appeal, while the interior exudes a sense of transatlantic luxury with its goblet-shaped steering wheel and plush two-tone reclining seats. Underneath its stylish exterior lies a heart of performance, with the TV variant boasting sporty mechanics tailored for spirited driving. Equipped with a boosted engine and independent front suspension featuring a stabilizer bar, the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile delivers a thrilling driving experience characterized by exceptional speed and precision in cornering. The inline-four 1089 cc engine churns out 53 horsepower at 5400 rpm, propelling the car to a top speed of 145 km/h. Despite its performance prowess and captivating design, production of the Fiat 1100 TV Trasformabile remained limited, with just 142 units rolling off the assembly line. Yet, its enduring legacy endures as a testament to Fiat’s commitment to innovation and excellence, solidifying its place in automotive history as a timeless classic cherished by enthusiasts around the world.
