Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport unveil Tensei at Milano Design Week

April 23, 2026

Milan, April 2026 — During Milano Design Week, Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport revealed new details of Tensei, a high-performance road car that marks a new collaboration between the two companies.

Presented at the Car Design Dialogues, the project introduces a modern reinterpretation of the original Honda NSX, a model widely recognized for redefining the supercar concept in the 1990s through its balance of performance, usability and engineering precision.

The name “Tensei,” derived from the Japanese word for “rebirth,” reflects the ambition behind the project: not a simple restomod, but a contemporary evolution of the NSX concept, combining updated proportions, advanced materials and a more assertive design language.

The car will be produced in an ultra-limited series at JAS Motorsport’s atelier in Arluno, near Milan, with additional bespoke customization supported by Pininfarina in Cambiano. The project is based on carefully selected donor cars from the early 1990s, which provide the original chassis and mechanical architecture, now complemented by a completely new carbon-fibre body.

From a design perspective, the work carried out by Pininfarina focuses strongly on proportion and stance. Compared to the original NSX, Tensei features a longer wheelbase, wider track, larger wheels and a lower overall height. These changes result in a more planted and contemporary road presence, while maintaining visual links to the original model.

According to the design team, the process involved identifying which elements of the NSX identity could be evolved and which needed to remain intact. The outcome is a car that retains recognizable features such as the side air intakes and rear wing integration, while introducing more sculpted surfaces and a stronger emphasis on width and aerodynamic performance.

Inside, the approach follows a similar philosophy. The cabin maintains the driver-focused layout of the original NSX, prioritizing ergonomics, visibility and direct interaction, while introducing higher material quality and a more refined execution.

From a technical standpoint, Tensei remains faithful to the spirit of the original car, featuring a naturally aspirated V6 inspired by the NSX architecture, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The focus is clearly on driving engagement, rather than purely numerical performance figures.

More broadly, the project highlights a growing trend within the automotive and design sectors: the reinterpretation of iconic models through contemporary technologies and craftsmanship, aimed at collectors seeking both heritage and exclusivity.

With Tensei, Pininfarina and JAS Motorsport propose a synthesis of design culture and engineering expertise, reconnecting past and present through a product that is both familiar and newly defined.
