Pininfarina B95 Wins Red Dot Design Award

Turin, September 9, 2025 – The Red Dot jury has spoken, and once again an Italian name steeped in carrozzeria tradition has come out on top. Automobili Pininfarina’s B95, the world’s first pure-electric hyper Barchetta, has been awarded the Red Dot Award: Design Concept, one of the most sought-after recognitions in the design world.

For Pininfarina, the accolade is more than just another trophy. It confirms that the Cambiano-based atelier still knows how to translate nearly a century of design DNA into visions that capture the imagination in an age defined by electrification.

A Modern Barchetta for a New Era

The B95 is not simply another hypercar. By reviving the Barchetta concept — a low, open, minimalist roadster that emerged in postwar Italy — Automobili Pininfarina ties itself directly to the golden era of carrozzeria. Where once Cisitalia, Ferrari, and Fiat-based specials wore Pininfarina lines in Barchetta form, today the B95 carries that spirit forward with an electric heart and futuristic surfacing.

Its proportions are unmistakably Italian: long and fluid, with clean aerodynamic forms rather than excess decoration. But it is also radical, thanks to its open cockpit with adjustable aero screens, and a sculptural body that can be tailored to the owner’s preferences.

Back-to-Back Recognition

This is the second consecutive year Automobili Pininfarina has been honored at Red Dot, following the PURA Vision design concept in 2024. Together, these wins suggest that the company is not only finding its design voice but also carving out a niche as the torchbearer of Italian electric luxury.

Unlike some EV startups that lean on technology over artistry, Automobili Pininfarina seems intent on positioning design at the core of its identity — a strategy that resonates strongly with the jury of one of the most influential design awards in the world.

Carrozzeria Heritage, Global Future

What makes the B95 significant is its role as a bridge: between the carrozzeria traditions of bespoke, hand-crafted bodies and the global, sustainable mobility revolution. Each B95 can be customized extensively, echoing the made-to-measure spirit of the postwar Italian workshops, yet it sits firmly in the realm of tomorrow, with a fully electric drivetrain and digital integration.

For enthusiasts of Italian coachbuilding, the award is a reminder that while many legendary carrozzerie have disappeared or been absorbed into larger brands, the Pininfarina name continues to influence the design conversation at the highest level.

A Signal from Cambiano

In a landscape crowded with EV hypercars, design is the ultimate differentiator. With the B95’s Red Dot recognition, Automobili Pininfarina signals that its PURA design philosophy — purity, elegance, and innovation — is not just marketing language, but a design ethos capable of winning critical acclaim on the international stage.

For enthusiasts of Italian coachbuilding, the B95 represents more than a design exercise: it is living proof that Italy’s tradition of daring, visionary form-making endures — and that the timeless Barchetta spirit is being reinterpreted to shape the electric future with the same boldness it once brought to the past.
